Art and craft as emergency project to respond of the children trauma in Kibera Slums after the Post-election Violence in the year 2007.

DESCRIPTION
The project arose as an emerging response to meet the psycho-social-emotional relief needs of the victims of post-electoral violence in Kenya at the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008.
The project provided psycho social support to alleviate post trauma among the children in the age group of 3-18, through a multi faceted team that will help the children in holistically (spiritually, mentally, physically, culturally, and socially) to overcome the trauma and stress.

Kibera, Nairobi. Under the umbrella of Guadalupe Missionaries.

IMPACT RESULT
The project helped the children in expressing the complexities of the faced crisis, repressed memories, anxiety, guilt and unspoken feelings bringing the post trauma issues.
The art therapy will not only aid in healing, but also improve the child’s cognitive skills and most importantly instill in the children through art that they are creators, re-creators who appreciate their art work and of others as well as respect diversity brought by their peers.
Through different programs the project was able to attend and support:
The preschool psychosocial support program in the Kibera neighborhood attended 5 nurseries visited twice a week, with a total population of 576 over a period of 3 years.
The Msani Club Program attended 26 children on weekends over a period of 3 years.

To create places where the children and teenagers experiences the joy of creativity and satisfaction of mastery by providing a variety of art and crafts material in order to respond to the crisis intervention as way of get healing
